The U. S. Food and Nutrition Board recommends that for a healthy diet we consume 38 grams of dietary fiber per day for men and 25 grams per day for women. However, Americans average less than half this recommended daily dose!

Fiberrific provides a natural source of soluble fiber that gently helps to maintain regularity*. Each tablespoon of Fiberrific provides over 13 grams of soluble fiber and is easily mixed into beverages or soft foods**.

Fiberrific is a uniquely beneficial fiber. It offers numerous health benefits beyond those of other fiber products:

There is a constant war in your body between probiotics (healthy bacteria) and pathogens (unhealthy bacteria). One particularly pesky and detrimental bacteria is Candida. Fiberrific helps to combat Candida and prevent Candida infection. Fiberrific is a “prebiotic”. Prebiotics serve as the food for probiotics, enabling them to better fight pathogens. By taking Fiberrific you can easily and effectively combat Candida.

Celiac disease (Sprue, Gluten intolerance)
Virtually all fiber sources, including supplements, can cause irritation, discomfort and negative side effects in celiacs. This is one reason why the vast majority of celiacs are also fiber deficient. Fiberrific is unique in that it does not irritate people with celiac disease or IBS. It is the soothing high fiber option.

The only supplement which is easy to use and effective, Fiberrific is a safe preventative and curative for constipation. It is also unique in that it can be used effectively by everyone, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the infirm, without fear of laxative dependence.

Fiberrific is the only fiber supplement effective in treating both constipation and diarrhea. It accomplishes this by acting as a fecal moisture balancer. Fiberrific acts to ensure feces have the proper amount of water as too much water will cause diarrhea while too little will cause constipation. Not too much, which prevents diarrhea; as well as not too little, which prevents constipation.

Friendly Bacteria (Probiotics)
Fiberrific is not only a fiber, it is also classified as a “prebiotic”. Foods that are prebiotics serve as the food for probiotics, the healthy bacteria in your digestive system. By feeding probiotics, Fiberrific increases your overall health and resistance to disease.

Calcium, Bones & Teeth
The ingredient in Fiberrific is the only fiber that has been clinically proven to  improve calcium absorption (by up to 33%).Fiberrific keeps calcium in bioavailable solution in your digestive system longer. A recent study involving teenage girls found an increase in calcium absorption by over 18%! This increased absorption of calcium has a measurable effect on bone density. Clinical trials show long term use can not only prevent loss of bone mass, but also loss of calcium and phosphorous from bones and teeth.

Steven A. Abrams, Ian J. Griffin, and Keli M. Hawthorne, Young Adolescents Who Respond to an Inulin-Type Fructan Substantially Increase Total Absorbed Calcium and Daily Calcium Accretion to the Skeleton J. Nutr., Nov 2007; 137: 2524S – 2526S.

The ingredient in Fiberrific is the only fiber that has been clinically proven to improve iron absorption. As with calcium, Fiberrific keeps iron in bioavailable solution in your digestive system longer.

Through its multiple actions Fiberrific has a unique ability among fiber supplements. It has the ability to improve energy levels and endurance. It does this through;

  • its ability to improve digestion, which intern improves nutrient absorption
  • its ability to increase synthesis of B vitamins
  • its ability to increase the absorption of iron
  • its ability to increase the absorption and utilization of calcium
  • its ability to increase the absorption of protein

Fitting Fiber into your Diet

Experts have revised their opinions on how much fiber we need to be healthy. They used to feel that a healthy diet should include a minimum of 20 to 35 grams of fiber daily. Now that more research has been done on the beneficial effects of fiber gives us, health experts agree that we should consume a minimum of 25 to 38 grams of fiber daily. Those afflicted with any degenerative or chronic disease (including arthritis, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high cholesterol and candidiasis) are under greater body stress and should aim for at least 70 grams of daily fiber.

Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to achieve a consistent healthy, high fiber diet. In fact, partially due to our fast-paced lifestyles and the convenience of packaged foods, North Americans consume far less fiber than we require. On average, we consume less than 10 grams daily, with vegetarians achieving a slightly better 12 grams.

When we think of fiber, most of us envision mountains of bran cereal, wheat, nuts and beans. We view fiber as unpalatable, boring and difficult to integrate into our everyday diet. We prefer convenient, flavorful foods, tasty sauces, rich desserts and sweetened beverages.

What if you could turn the foods you already love into tasty fiber-rich superfoods? Now you can with Fiberrific!

Fiberrific is 97% pure fiber. It is the easy way to increase your fiber intake and reap all of its health benefits.

Fiberrific offers all the benefits you need from a fiber supplement – without any of the drawbacks. It dissolves completely in water, your favorite hot or cold drinks, even in soft foods. You won’t even know it’s there!

Now you have the power to turn virtually any food or drink into a fiber-rich super food, without any effect on taste, aroma or texture.

Fiberrific is the only easy-to-use and pleasant-to-take high fiber supplement. Extracted, through a gentle water process, from plants, Fiberrific is a fine white powder similar to icing sugar in appearance and comprised of a natural, completely soluble, grit-free, edible fiber called partially hydrolyzed inulin.

Your Low Carb Lifestyle

It’s hardly a secret that high-protein, low-carb diets have taken North America by storm. You may even be one of the tens of millions of North Americans on these diets that have turned the traditional food pyramid on its end. There’s no question these diets aid in weight loss, but they can cause nutrient deficiencies and are deficient in dietary fiber.

While the road to a svelte new you may be paved with high-protein, if you’re like most low-carbers it’s likely you’ve also encountered a few potholes along the way.

Unfortunately constipation, stomach upset and bloating are common problems for people on low-carb diets. That’s because they aren’t getting enough fiber.

“Any time you make a fundamental change in your diet your body is going to react — and when it does you are bound to experience certain symptoms or problems,” says Stephen Sondike, MD, director of the Nutrition, Exercise, and Weight Management Program (NEW) at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

The primary place you are going to see metabolic changes when on any kind of diet is in your gastrointestinal tract. These can include changes in bowel habits often experienced as constipation and upset. The reason is that most of us get whatever little fiber we consume from high-carb foods such as bread and pasta. Cut those foods out, and your fiber intake drops dramatically, and in some to virtually zero. As your fiber intake decreases, your risk of constipation and gastric upset increases.

The irony is, if you follow a low-carb diet correctly, you should be replacing those high-carb foods with low-carb, high-fiber vegetables, which which should help partially counter the constipation by providing some of the fiber that you were getting before without the excessive carbs.

Unfortunately it is virtually impossible on a low-carb diet to obtain the amount of fiber you need entirely from your food. You will need to top up your fiber to get close to the 38 grams experts say we require each day. This is where Fiberrific can help.

“The one thing I would not do is start taking laxatives — adding more fiber to your diet is definitely a smarter and healthier way to deal with the problem,” says Doris Pasteur, MD, director of the Nutrition Wellness program at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Low-carb diets turn on the fat-burning processes, known as “dietary ketosis.” These ketones are believed to act as an appetite suppressant and to cause dehydration, a common problem associated with a low carb diet.

The solution: Drink more water.

The lower your intake of carbohydrates, the greater your need for a vitamin supplement. That’s the mantra that most doctors now recommend that everyone on a low-carb diet should never forget.

The reason? Any time you restrict your diet, particularly in terms of certain food groups, your nutrient levels can drop. But when your diet is low carb, experts say you may be in even greater need for vitamins and minerals.

Sondike agrees and says that, “Any time you are on a weight-loss diet you need a good multivitamin, regardless of whether you are limiting your carbohydrate intake or not.”

There is mounting evidence that a low-carb diet can also take its toll on calcium levels. Because of this it is wise to take a calcium supplement beginning at the start of your low-carb diet to safeguard against a possible deficiency.

Finally, if you stick to your low-carb diet via the use of prepackaged foods, experts say read the label carefully to avoid ingredients that are notoriously responsible for gastrointestinal upsets. Among the worst offenders: sugar alcohols (sorbitol, maltitol, isomalt, mannitol, xylitol, etc.) and artificial sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose, etc.).

Living Gluten-Free

Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition in which your body’s reaction to gluten (a protein in cereals and some grains) results in damage to the lining of your small intestine. Gluten is found in wheat and rye, but it can also be found in barley, oats, and other grains. Because of the damage caused to your small intestine, your body is incapable of properly absorbing nutrients.

Experts do not know why people get celiac disease. They do agree that it is caused by an abnormal reaction from your immune system to gluten, a protein found in foods such as bread, pasta, and many sauces, and even some medications. When you eat or drink anything that contains gluten, your immune system produces antibodies against it – Antibodies are proteins that your body normally produces to fight off infection and disease. As the antibodies attack the gluten in your small intestine, they also damage the intestinal lining itself. As a result, your body is much less able to digest and absorb nutrients from food.

Generally, a baby with celiac disease will begin to show symptoms once he or she is given food that contains gluten. Children and adults can also develop the disease, but this is less common. Adult females get the disease more often than males, and generally at an earlier age.

One in 200 to 250 Canadians has the disease. Experts think that many other people have yet to be diagnosed.

Fiber & Celiac Disease
Fiber is an important part of a healthy diet, for both adults and children. It has many benefits, including reducing the risk of constipation and improving cholesterol levels. Including sufficient fiber in anyone’s diet will benefit their immediate health and get them started on a good health habit.

Including fiber in the diet of a celiac can be a challenge, since two of the most common high-fiber foods in the North American diet, whole wheat and oats, contain gluten. It is because of this conflict that celiacs are among the most fiber deficient people.

Unfortunately the vast majority of fiber supplements are highly irritating to the digestive system, which can cause digestive issues and unpleasant effects for celiacs. Fiberrific is an easy solution to this issue.

Fiberrific is unique among fibers. It is exceptionally high in fiber, containing 4.5g in each teaspoon. Unlike other fiber supplements, Fiberrific is not irritating, in fact it is soothing to the digestive system. Fiberrific is ideal for celiacs as it is also entirely gluten-free.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is widely recognized as one of the leading causes of death and disability in North America. In 2000, it was the sixth leading cause of death. However, diabetes is likely to be under-reported as the underlying cause of death on death certificates. About 65 percent of deaths among those with diabetes are attributed to heart disease and stroke. Diabetes often leads to blindness, heart and blood vessel disease, stroke, kidney failure, amputations, and nerve damage. Uncontrolled diabetes can complicate pregnancy, and birth defects are more common in babies born to women with diabetes. Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism, the way our bodies use digested food for growth and energy. Most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose, the form of sugar in the blood. Glucose is the main source of fuel for the body. Glucose is used by cells for growth and energy. For glucose to get into cells, insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, is required. When we eat, the pancreas should automatically produce the right amount of insulin to move glucose from our blood into our cells. In diabetics, however, the pancreas either produce little or no insulin, or the cells do not respond appropriately to the insulin that is produced. Glucose builds up in the blood, overflows into the urine, and passes out of the body.

Types of Diabetes

The three main types of diabetes are:

  • type 1 diabetes
  • type 2 diabetes
  • gestational diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. An autoimmune disease results when the body’s immune system turns against a part of the body. In diabetes, the immune system attacks the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas and destroys them. The pancreas then produce little or no insulin. A person who has type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to stay alive. Type 1 diabetes accounts for about 5 to 10 percent of diagnosed diabetics. It develops most often in children and young adults, but can appear at any age. The most common form of diabetes is type 2 diabetes. About 90 to 95 percent of people with diabetes have type 2. This form of diabetes is associated with older age, obesity, family history of diabetes, previous history of gestational diabetes, physical inactivity, and ethnicity. About 80 percent of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese. In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas is usually producing enough insulin, but the body cannot use the insulin effectively, a condition called insulin resistance. After several years, insulin production decreases. This causes glucose to build up in the blood, overflow into the urine, and pass out of the body. Gestational Diabetes is a temporary diabetic state brought on by pregnancy and may lead to other forms of diabetes.

Diabetes Treatment and Fiberrific

The primary aim of diabetes treatments is to balance blood sugar levels to prevent incidents of high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia). This can be accomplished with either insulin injections, or through dietary measures. Due to the inconvenience, the expense and the risk of error (which can cause hypoglycaemic periods), insulin injections are not the preferred route. Fiberrific has undergone extensive research as a treatment and preventative for diabetes. Fiberrific is unique in that it can prevent periods of high blood sugar while, at the same time, helping to prevent some of the complications associated with diabetes. Unlike other fiber supplements and foods, Fiberrific has a zero glycemic index. It is naturally free of any sugars and has none added. In fact, the British Journal of Nutrition noted that supplementation with soluble fiber improves glucose tolerance. If anything is classified as a “free food”, soluble fiber is it. While soluble fiber technically is a carbohydrate, it won’t raise our blood glucose, which is why it is separated from all other carbohydrates on nutrition labels. In Europe, in fact, it’s not even counted as a carbohydrate. Soluble fiber actually helps us to control blood glucose levels.

As you eat, your body converts carbohydrates (sugars and starches) from food into glucose. This rapid increase in blood sugar (hyperglycemia) is dangerous for diabetics. Studies have shown that consumption of the soluble fiber in Fiberrific before and while eating prevents hyperglycemia.

Fiberrific controls blood sugar in several ways. First, it helps to slow the absorption of glucose in the gut. This reduces blood sugar spikes and, in turn, the amount of insulin required by the body during and after eating carbohydrates. The ingredient in Fiberrific also helps control blood sugar levels by inhibiting your body’s production of glucose. As Fiberrific is broken down into short chain fatty acids (SCFA) the body senses the increased amount of SCFA, which it interprets as similar to glucose and therefore sends signals to the liver not to produce more glucose as there is already enough. One of the properties of Fiberrific is that it helps to increase the insulin sensitivity of cells. As cells become more sensitive to insulin they begin to use glucose more efficiently. In diabetics who do not produce enough insulin, this reduces their need for insulin. In people that produce too much insulin, this action results in a reduction in the amount of insulin produced, bringing levels more in line with healthy people. Fiberrific also decreases the level of cholesterol in our blood, which reduces our risk of heart disease, the main complication of diabetes. A side benefit for diabetics is that Fiberrific helps fill you up without adding calories, helping you avoid increasing your waistline and weight.

Fiber and Fiberrific

Except for Fiberrific, all fiber supplements and foods containing fiber have some impact carbohydrates, and therefore raise blood sugar levels. Even oat bran has some impact carbohydrates. There isn’t any fiber in meat, poultry, seafood, dairy products, eggs or fats.

Most people have an exceptionally low fiber intake. The experts, including the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board, recommend that we consume at least 30 grams of fiber each day. Americans average less than half this recommended daily dose! On average adults get around 10 grams per day, and almost none of it is the valuable soluble fiber. Fiberrific can boost your daily intake of dietary fiber easily and naturally. Each tablespoon of Fiberrific provides over 13 grams of soluble fiber to help you maintain and improve your health.

Diabetics are in the unique position that virtually everyone has an opinion of what they should not eat or what foods they need to limit. But friends, family and even “the experts” rarely agree on a game plan. Overall, a diabetic might be told to stop eating so much of this and that, specifically starches and sugars, fat and even protein. But all the experts do agree on one nutrient. Everyone needs more fiber, especially soluble fiber. Everyone needs Fiberrific!

Inulin Weight Loss

Obesity has been increasing for years. Right now more than one-third of US adults (34.9%) and one-fifth of Canadians (20.2%) are obese. Obesity, along with being overweight is a serious public health problem due to the long term health complications. Quality of life deteriorates causing serious illness, even death.

Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes, among others. Some are leading causes of preventable death (meaning, it’s a risk you can do something about). Obesity costs us all. Costs related to obesity costs the US almost $150 billion/year and Canada over $5 billion/year.

Dieting and exercise do lead to weight loss, but many people can’t change eating habits for any length of time. Others stop, or never start, regular exercise. Some hope that hyped medications, fasts, or purges are the answer. These methods at best offer some results in the short term, but in the long term these short cuts are not successful. Investigators have been looking for ways to enhance weight loss for decades.

Researchers believe that inulin (the ingredient in Fiberrific) may be one of the solutions. Probiotic gut bacteria use inulin as a food and to heal. Testing shows that adding inulin to the diet led to users eating less food and losing weight. It contributes to weight loss through multiple mechanisms.

Decreasing appetite –  As Fiberrific is a natural plant fiber, it remains longer in the stomach, causing satiety (feeling of fullness) and reduces hunger.

Reduces fat creation – Studies show that people with diets rich in inulin (the ingredient in Fiberrific) have a reduction in the formation of lipids (fats) in the liver. This action results in a reduction in fat depositing thought the body.

Reduces fat & sugar absorption – Inulin (the ingredient in Fiberrific) has a unique action when ingested with fatty foods and sugars. Trials (both in humans and animals) show that it reduces the gut’s ability to absorb these compounds.

Reduces conversion of sugar to fat – Our bodies convert sugar to fat as a way to store energy. When Fiberrific is consumed by probiotics, some of the SCFA by-products partially inhibit glucose absorption. Therefore, glucose is prevented from becoming fatty acids in the liver. Furthermore, this natural process controls levels of blood glucose and fat.

Reduces blood fat levels. Through the combination of the actions listed above (decreased fat absorption, decreased fat creation and decreased sugar conversion to fat) it reduces the level of lipids (fats & cholesterol) in the blood.

For a truly effective approach to weight loss, people need to be realistic and attempt to use a multi-faceted plan. Ideally the plan would include a controlled reduction in caloric intake, an increase in calories burned (exercise) and supplements to amplify the caloric reduction and burning effects. The supplements would include;

Fiberrific to reduce fat creation an accumulation

Lose-it to reduce appetite and increase caloric burning

Liquid Greens to reduce liquid caloric intake, reduce cravings for snacks, increase water intake and increase physical energy without added calories

Stevia for calorie-free sweetness

The Fiber Mix

There are two broad categories of fiber, soluble and insoluble. Both soluble and insoluble fibers are vital to good health, proper immunity and nutrient absorption. These two forms of fiber perform different functions in your body. Contrary to what most people think, both soluble and insoluble fibers are not digested by your body.

They are therefore not absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead of being used for energy, fiber is excreted from our bodies.

Most foods contain a mixture of soluble and insoluble fiber, which together make up “dietary fiber”, the term used on food labels. Fibers that can dissolve in liquids are called soluble fiber and those that can’t dissolve in liquids are insoluble.

Insoluble fiber has one main health benefit. It acts as “roughage” irritating and scratching the digestive system which acts as a broom, cleaning the colon of dead cells and waste, but also causing irritation. Your body tries to eliminate this irritation (and waste) the only way it can, by excreting it causing bowel movements. We need this constant cleansing as it helps us eliminate waste that if left in us can cause digestive upset, allow pathogens to flourish and cause disease. Unfortunately this beneficial “broom action” also decreases nutrient absorption and interferes with some medications.

All other health benefits associated with fiber (controlling and preventing diabetes, preventing cancer, lowering cholesterol and triglycerides, preventing digestive disorders, preventing overeating, etc.) are associated with soluble fiber.

Now that researchers better understand the exact mechanisms of the beneficial effects that fiber gives us, they agree that we should consume a bare minimum of 25 to 38 grams of fiber daily (Food and Nutrition Board).

Even more alarming is the vast majority of the fiber we do get is insoluble. This is due to the way fiber is found in foods. Insoluble and soluble fibers are bound together, usually in a ratio of 5 to 1. So if you are the “average” person getting 10 grams of total fiber a day, you are actually only getting 2 grams of soluble fiber! The experts agree that we need as much soluble fiber as insoluble fiber to keep healthy.

It is virtually impossible to get enough total fiber and enough soluble fiber from food alone.  This is why most health care practitioners recommend fiber supplementation and stress soluble fiber as the key type that is needed.

Fiberrific is the soluble fiber solution. It is 97% pure soluble fiber, the highest amount available anywhere. Each taste-free, easy to take (also to bake and cook with) teaspoon provides 4.5g of soluble fiber! It is the easy way to increase your soluble fiber intake and reap the health benefits of fiber. Additionally, Fiberrific is gentle and non-irritating, making it the ideal fiber supplement for anyone with a sensitive digestive system and those concerned about gluten or IBS.

Fiber is the portion of plant foods (whole grains, fruits, and vegetables) that our bodies cannot digest. Because dietary fiber is resistant to digestive enzymes, it is not broken down or absorbed, which means it does not provide calories or energy to the body. According to the American Dietetic Association, dietary fiber has demonstrated benefits for health maintenance, disease prevention, and as a component of medical nutrition therapy.

Consuming a diet lacking in fiber increases the risk of developing gastrointestinal problems such as constipation, diverticular disorders, and swings in blood sugar levels. Most popular foods in the American diet are not high in dietary fiber. This results in the current American diet averaging only about 10 grams of dietary fiber, whereas intakes of 25 to 40 grams are linked to a reduced risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, colon cancer, and other intestinal disorders.

There are two types of fibers, soluble and insoluble. Fiber that can dissolve in water such as Fiberrific is referred to as soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber or roughage cannot dissolve in water but can absorb water. This causes them to swell, making them good bulking agents, which speeds up transit time and improves elimination. In general, high fiber diets are associated with significantly reduced risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer and many other illnesses. Soluble fibers have a cholesterol-lowering effect and they also help regulate blood sugar levels. In diabetes, type 1, a diet high in fiber was reported to improve glycemic control and reduce the number of hypoglycemic events experienced. Patients with type 2 diabetes who were consuming 50 grams of fiber daily were compared to patients following the American Diabetes Association’s recommendation of 24 grams of fiber daily. After 6 weeks, patients on the higher fiber diet had substantially better control of blood glucose, insulin and blood lipids.

Fiber is also one of the elements in a program used to treat constipation along with extra hydration and exercise. In fact, studies have indicated that diets that are low in fiber are associated with constipation in both children and in the elderly. Fiber has also been recommended as a dietary addition in therapies with patients who are being treated for hemorrhoids as well as for diverticulosis.

High fiber diets may help protect against obesity according to the results of a study that followed young adults for a period of ten years. Individuals who consumed the least dietary fiber gained 8 pounds more over the 10-year period compared to individuals who consumed at least 21 grams of fiber daily.

The results of numerous studies indicate that people and/or cultures with high fiber diets reduce their risk of colorectal cancer by more than 30%. When the soluble fiber reaches the colon, anaerobic bacteria degrade it in a process called fermentation. This process produces by-products known as short-chain fatty acids, which help maintain proper acid / base balance in the colon and for this reason may play a role in the prevention of colorectal cancer.
